Content: Preety will recite her own Gujarati poems, gazals, and songs. Will talk about her challenging experiences as a single Indian woman traveler and will present slides of several unique regions of the world followed by a Q&A session. Even though most of the time will be devoted to her, 5 GSS writers will also get opportunity to present their work.
BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT PREETY SENGUPTA
Married to a Bengali and settled in New York City. Prominent writer and world traveler. Winner of 1993 Vishwa Gurjari Award and 2007 Kumar Gold Medal – first time to a writer out of India. Well known writer (short stories, essays, poetry) with 35 books published in Gujarati, Hindi and English. Eight books won prizes from literary organizations in Gujarat. One English book was commissioned by the Government of India’s Publishing House and translated in all 18 official languages of India. Author of photographs based coffee table book “Our India: Heart is where Home is”.
Avid world traveler – always to the most offbeat places from Antarctica to the Magnetic North Pole. First Indian person to hoist an Indian Tricolor on the snowy expanse of the Magnetic North Pole in 1992.

This special GSS Bethak has become possible because of generosity of Clear Lake Area’s GSS members as they are willing to absorb its expenses (e.g. airfare, transportation to/from airport and within Houston metro area, 4 days stay and honorarium). If someone wants to pitch in and contribute, it is on a voluntary basis. Please take advantage of this special Bethak. Bring your friends and join in the pre-Bethak dinner if you can.
