We finally found some credible science to support what we’ve believed for a long time…proper water consumption not only improves health, it is a powerful weight loss strategy too.
A 12 week study managed by Dr Brenda Davy of Virginia Tech confirms to our satisfaction that drinking a pint of water before each of the three main meals leads to substantially improved weight loss. Her calorie controlled study,1,200 calories for women and 1,500 for men, introduced water consumption as the only variable. One half of the group were given no water consumption instructions and the other half drank a pint of water before all 3 meals. After 12 weeks the water group lost about 15.5 pounds and the non water group lost 11 pounds. What’s even more impressive is that at the end of a year the members of the water group, that continued to drink a pint of water before meals, lost an additional 2 pounds even after they returned to their normal eating patterns. The non water group gained all the weight they lost during the 12 week study back by the end of the year.
A 17 pound weight loss in a year is not a huge number, especially if you have a lot of weight to lose, but 6 of those pounds were achieved by simply drinking more water and that turns into a very big number over time. Proper Hydration is important for lots of reasons. Water in, toxins out…you’ll feel better and look better flushing that “stuff” out of your body everyday too.
